Youth Summer Camp 2008

Cherish Nature and Life Summer Camp

Dates : Monday, June 23 ~ Friday, July 4, 2008

Boarding students from afar may arrive Sunday afternoon, June 22 and leave Saturday morning, July 5

Hours : 8:00 AM ~ 3:00 PM (for day students)

Host: Instilling Goodness/Developing Virtue Schools.

Place : City of Ten Thousand Buddhas

2001 Talmage Road , Ukiah, California 95482

(110 miles north of San Francisco).

Program:

Based on the Buddhist teaching of the interconnectedness of all things, the camp explores how human activities impact the environment and other species, and how we can make choices to live more compassionately and sustainably.

Camp Activities:

Learn plant-based cooking.
Work on an organic farm.
Recycle and use recycled materials.
Explore alternative energy.
Take nature hikes, fieldtrips.
Experience Buddhist chanting, meditation, vegetarian meals.
Learn about cause and effect, the interconnectedness of all things, the power of the mind.
Study Chinese language, calligraphy.
Learn cultural dances and music.
Be creative in arts and crafts, drama.
Participate in sports, outdoor games, community service.

Ages : 5 – 14 (Boarding students must be at least 11)

Parents are welcome to apply as volunteer teachers, counselors and helpers.

Fees:

  • Day Student (includes tuition, lunch, T-shirt, $20 registration fee): $200
  • Boarding Student (tuition, T-shirt, $250 room & board, $20 registration fee):$500

(Space for families on campus is limited)
(Anyone staying on campus must provide proof of health insurance. International students must purchase health insurance, which is available through school.)

Deadline for Application: June 1 or until spaces are filled. Application Fee: $20 (nonrefundable).
